James Hussey - Territory Manager

Dr James Hussey, Microscopy Specialist North UK, joined GT Vision in May 2024. Prior to this, he worked at Olympus covering the North for Life Sciences. He has expertise in the application of Microscopy and the study of Liquid Crystals. He gained his PhD in Synthesis and Characterisation of Novel Photochromic Liquid Crystals at the University of Hull. He was the Lead Formulator for two APIs at Pfizer, where he was successful in gaining FDA approval for a Liquid Crystal phenomena within the formulation - a first for this area.

David Benson - Territory Manager

David Benson joined GT Vision in 2024 as the Northern Territory Manager for Materials Microscopy. He brings a wealth of experience from the life sciences sector, where he excelled in selling capital equipment, with a particular focus on liquid handling automation. Before transitioning into sales, David had a rewarding career in education as an A-level Chemistry teacher and Programme Lead for Applied Sciences, overseeing the academic progress of over 300 students.

David’s diverse background equips him with a unique skill set, allowing him to offer expert support to materials customers across the North, helping them select the best products for their specific applications.

Patrick Ream - Territory Manager

Patrick has joined GT Vision in May of 2025 and brings with him many years of
experience in the microscope industry and business development. Born and raised in Denver Colorado he moved to the UK in 2015 to start the UK branch of a microscope company focusing on sales and service on surgical microscopes.
Starting in the UK from the ground up he has a huge focus on building relationships with customers and is driven to provide top quality customer service. With experience in the UK market both NHS, Private, he also has
extensive international sales experience and prides himself on looking after
his customers.

David Hemingway, Customer Relationship Manager

David joined GT Vision in March 2025. Prior to this he was Territory Sales Manager at Nikon Metrology UK Ltd. 

David has worked in European and UK Commercial roles for over 35 years dealing with Multi-nationals and Blue chips to Sole traders both in the Purchasing and Sales settings. He brings 15+ years experience in the UK Microscopy market.

David will be looking at GT Vision current activities and establishing processes to make the GT Vision offering more relevant to the customer base whilst working on specific projects to ensure that working with GT Vision is a positive experience for all our customers.

Mike Chase - Technical & Service

Mike has worked for GT Vision since January 2019. Starting as a trainee service engineer, he cut his teeth looking after a large service contract for a national chain of Veterinary practices. 

As his experience and knowledge has grown, he’s taken on more advanced and complicated service jobs. Now covering countrywide, he’s visiting everyone from Universities and Hospitals to Manufacturers and Secondary Schools to provide help and support for all levels of microscopy.

Brad Pearson - Technical & Service

Brad joined GT Vision in January 2025 as a dedicated trainee service engineer with a unique blend of skills in electrical systems and computer science. With a solid foundation as an electrician, Brad has hands-on experience in the installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of electrical systems across various settings. Complementing this expertise, Brad acquired a degree in Computer Science during his time at Northumbria University, bringing a deep understanding of software development, programming, and IT solutions to every project.

Steve Beament - Office Manager

With over 30 years of experience as a supervisor in the security industry, Steve has honed exceptional problem-solving and communication skills. In July 2024, Steve joined GT Vision Ltd as an office manager, bringing a wealth of expertise and a proven track record of leadership and efficiency to the role.

Márcia Gago - Sales & Purchasing Administrator

Born and raised in Portugal, moved into England in 2015. 

Getting experience in a big distribution company like Turners Ltd, she joins the team in August 2024 to process sales order with GT Vision and see the ins and outs of a smaller family company.

Previously also have worked as a Kitchen & Bathroom Designer, for a couple of years, as a passion for decoration and close contact with customer service; She comes into our close-knit company with a combination of experiences that will be profitable for the company in the long term.

Emma Lakey - Logistics & Quality Control Manager

Born and raised in London, Emma has over 30 years of experience within the retail and hospitality industries, accomplished in customer service and stock management.

Working within well-known companies such as Liberty, The Royal Lancaster Hotel, Selfridges group, and Tesco before joining GT Vision in 2016.

With a strong passion for problem solving and creating systems, Emma takes pride in supporting colleagues and customers, ensuring smooth operations behind the scenes.

Samuel Patterson - QC and Service Assistant

Sam worked voluntarily for GT Vision on and off during a Level 3 Engineering college course at West Suffolk College, then joined GT Vision full time in 2021.

His job includes assisting with day-to-day tasks and challenges, from organising, packing orders of various quantities and complexities, and checking microscopes and associated equipment to make sure they meet GT Visions standards/ customers’ expectations. In addition, Sam assists the service department with repairs of customers’ microscopes and associated equipment. 

His diverse role and flexible varied skill set means he's able to assist and help when and where is needed.

Neil Patterson - Managing & Technical Director and Service & Support Lead

On leaving school Neil attended Merton College in Morden studying Motorcycle mechanics (a course sponsored by a number of branded motorcycle manufactures).

Neil then earned a 4 year Apprenticeship with a Suffolk based engineering company, becoming a qualified Mechanical Engineer, Fitter, Welder, Machinist. 

Neil was asked to join a Suffolk based Automotive engineering company named PACE Products. This business owned by an Ex Lotus F1 mechanic. Over a 25 year period the company grew from 2 members of staff to over 40, growing the business into a globally recognised supplier of specialised automotive equipment, Neil personally training and mentoring many enthusiastic young men and women to machine, weld, fabricate, assemble/build/install; working with the likes of Lotus, Aston Martin, Jaguar, Ford, many of the most revered Touring car, La Man, GT, Single seater, Ice racing, Rally car, Drag car/motorcycle, GP motorcycle, classic and pre-war car race teams; amongst other similar projects working with JCB on their Diesel Max land speed record car. Responsible for designing, prototyping, creating, manufacturing and supplying specialised parts from a comprehensively equipped purpose-built factory.  

A change of career came when Neil was invited to join GT Vision Ltd back in 2010 in the early days of their expansion, increasing product level and supplier base along with creating and maintaining the Service and Support side to the business; Neil bringing a wealth of experience at industry level, a keen eye for detail, combined with a strong unwavering work ethic.

Philip Pike - Sales & Marketing Coordinator

Philip Pike, Sales and Marketing Coordinator, joined GT Vision in October 2018. His work involves managing and updating the website, coordinating GT Vision's marketing activities and technical support for their range of products.

Prior to this he worked in various sales, sales management and marketing roles in the laboratory instrumentation market.

John Burns - CEO

John Burns is a business builder at heart, with over 40 years of experience in scaling companies and leading teams. He founded Diamond Group in 1992, transforming it from a garage startup into a multi-million-pound business spanning IT solutions, office equipment, communications, and finance.

After 31 successful years, he sold the company in 2021, thinking he was ready for retirement—but the entrepreneurial itch didn’t fade.In May 2023, John invested in GT Vision Ltd, stepping in as CEO in October 2023 with a bold vision: to grow the company to £10 million a year and make it the UK’s leading provider of microscopy solutions for hospitals, colleges, and industry.

With a hands-on leadership style, a passion for growth, and decades of experience, John is driven to take GT Vision to the next level.

Marie Furphy - Operations Manager

Marie Furphy is a people-focused leader with a passion for making businesses run smoothly and helping teams thrive. With over 20 years of experience in sales, operations, and strategy, she loves finding smart ways to drive growth and build great teams.

In November 2024, she joined GT Vision Ltd as Operations Manager, keeping everything running efficiently while supporting the sales team with strategic planning. She’s all about streamlining processes, fostering collaboration, and making work easier (and more enjoyable) for everyone.

Marie believes success comes from empowering people, continuous learning, and a good dose of enthusiasm. Whether mentoring future leaders or fine-tuning business strategies, she brings a hands-on, energetic approach to everything she does.
